Our Pastor
Bishop Samuel L. Green, Jr.

Bishop Samuel L. Green, Jr., was born to the late Deacon Samuel L. and Mrs. Leosia P. Green on March 19, 1927. Bishop Green has been married to his childhood sweetheart, Mrs. Vivian F. Green for 58 years and to this union nine children were born.

Bishop is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and attended Norfolk State and Old Dominion Universities. In 1973, he received the Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree from Trinity Hall College and Seminary, Springfield, IL. In May 1995, he received the Honorary Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies. He received a Master of Divinity and Doctorate of Ministry from Norfolk Seminary and College, Norfolk, Virginia in August 2000.

Bishop Green has been pastoring St. Johns Church of God in Christ in Newport News, Virginia for 45 years. In 1973 Bishop Green was appointed Prelate of the Second Jurisdiction, State of Virginia by the Presidium Board of the Churches of God in Christ, Inc. He was named successor to his mentor and father in the gospel, the late Bishop D. Lawrence Williams. Under his leadership the 52 church jurisdiction has elevated to 72 churches.

Bishop Green is the founder of "Faith For Living Richer Life Ministries Inc." Currently, this ministry sponsors a television program, which airs on the Inspirational Cable Network (INSP) Sunday Morning at 6:30 am (EST). With his technical media experience, Bishop Green was the first African American to own a Religious Television Station, WJCB TV-49.

In 1984, Bishop Green was elected to the General Board of the Churches of God in Christ, Inc. He is currently serving his sixth term in office.

Bishop Green often tells that one of his most memorable experiences with the Lord was the day he asked the Lord if He was prejudiced (because, at the time, he did not see as many blessings in the black race, compared to the white race). In response, God's answer was "Green, I will not bless you solely because you are black, but you must meet my criteria." Since that time (many years ago) God has proven Himself to Bishop Green, in many ways.
